How Is The Ultimate 2 Different Than Other Gyms? Unlike other home gyms, the Bowflex Ultimate 2 is a full featured workout machine that develops every part of your body. The reason I bought is I wanted a machine that would allow me to get a gym quality workout in the convenience and privacy of my home.

Is It Easy To Use? Working out on the Ultimate 2 is easy and effective. In fact, I was shocked on how well my first workout went. When you perform an exercise on the Ultimate 2, the Power Rods fight you every inch of the way. The resistance is even and consistent from the start of your contraction all the way to the end. You’ll get a better muscle burn and greater control for faster development and improved conditioning. Words cannot describe the incredible pumps you get with this machine! You won’t be able to use momentum and cheat on this one. Each rep is performed with perfect form for the fastest muscle development.

How Long Till I See Results? As someone who wanted to get conditioned and ripped for the summer, I was able to see results just after a few weeks. Problem areas that once bothered me have been replaced with solid muscle. You have 100 exercises to choose from to hit up every part of your body that needs improvement.. After 6 weeks I’ve been able to drop 3 pant sizes and added inches of rock-hard muscle to my once flabby and embarrassing frame. Bowflex – the Gym in your Home

I have owned my Bowflex for about 2 years and figured it was a good time I wrote a review. I have the Bowflex Ultimate XTLU. Originally I ordered the overhead lat tower, but no t the leg attachment. I also upgraded to 410lbs vs. the standard 310 lbs.

Cost/Setup – On the topic of cost, it wasn’t cheap. Compared to other systems it was comparable in the $2000 dollar range with the options I selected. You are paying for the name and the quality. If I had to do it over again I think I would purchase a used model. They age well and the depreciation is a killer if you decide you don’t like it. The setup was straight forward. I did it with the help of my 9 year old son and I believe he might have been able to do it by himself. Everything was clearly marked and if followed, the instructions were clear and straight forward. It is a large piece of equipment, especially with the lat tower. You need to have a large area to store and use this product, mine is in an open area in the basement.

Exercise and instructions – The instructional information provided regarding the use of the equipment was well done. The exercises were explained and demonstrated in a simple and easy to understand manner. It also was complete in it also provided diet and lifestyle information to supplement the exercise routines. The manual contained several routines depending on your experience level and were complete body work-outs, you could also easily design your own workout from the available exercise. The exercise description contained information on which muscles or muscle groups were being addressed and I used this early on to find similar exercises to work the leg muscles that I could not address because I did not have the leg attachment.

Optional accessories – Even in retrospect I would have to recommend that if you can only afford a single attachment go with the lat tower instead of the leg attachment. I bought the leg attachment after the fact on EBay. I had been doing alternate leg exercises up to that point and honestly it is just in the way and requires a cable change to use. To add to that is has a some what limited list of exercises.

Maintenance – Maintenance has been very simple. I wipe it down occasionally with a damp cloth, mostly to remove dust since I keep it in the basement. Once every other month I use some WD-40 on the pulleys to keep the loose and reduce squeaking. Other than that it has been maintenance free and has worked with out problems three times a week for right at two years.

Overall I give the Bowflex line a positive review for convenience, durability, and flexibility. A final reminder, before starting any diet or exercise program consult with your physician to determine what is right for you. Good luck and good health.

Does Static Contraction Training Really Work?

Is there a “Science” for Building Muscle? The answer is yes and it’s called static contraction training or isometric exercise!

Enough research has been conducted to reach some real conclusions. There are certain types of strength training “secrets” that when applied properly will result in almost miraculous muscle and strength gains. Secrets that have been proven in clinical studies.

Here’s the story:

Research done by Doctors Hettinger and Muller” in 1953 in “Isometrics” or “Static Contractions” (as it’s now being referred to) came to the attention of the American public.

Drs. Hettinger and Muller concluded that gains in static contraction strength of 5% per week were produced by one daily 66% maximal isometric action 6 seconds in duration.

Gains in strength of this magnitude with such little training time and effort seemed unbelievable at that time and even today. A review of subsequent studies demonstrated that static contraction training leads to static strength gains, and that the gains can be substantial and variable over short duration training periods.

Incredible Strength Gains

Increases in strength from static contraction training are related to the number of muscle actions performed.

The duration of the muscle actions, whether the muscle action is maximal, and the frequency of training.

Because most studies involving static contraction training manipulates several of these factors simultaneously, it is difficult to evaluate the importance of anyone factor.

Enough research has been conducted, however, to allow recommendations and tentative conclusions concerning static contractions training.

How to Maximize Your Bodybuilding Training And with Static Contractions

The only problem in utilizing this powerful technique into your training program is that, pushing against a wall and holding it for 7 to 10 seconds is effective, but there is no practical way to measure the amount of resistance and your strength gains.

Also, static training by itself is just not enough. Even the government has gotten involved in this.

Recent research done by N.A.S.A (in an effort to determine the most effective way for Astronauts to train in space) has revealed incredible strategies for the “correct” application of Isometric exercise.

The great thing about this type of training protocol is that you can apply the principle to just about any piece of equipment. Lately, people have even used static contraction with Bowflex home gym. There are home gyms are exercises specifically designed to be used isometrics were static contraction training. Total Gym Vs Bowflex – How Do These Two Systems Compare

Most individuals today are overweight! Can either of these two– Total Gym vs Bowflex overcome this problem?

The real question is, can they deliver on their promises!

There are many benefits to working out at home. One of the major benefits to having a home gym of course — is that you avoid having to be scrutinized — looked up and down — by everyone at the gym.

If you’re overweight or out of shape — you know what I’m talking about.

So let’s take a look at these two systems — Total Gym vs Bowflex

Bowlex has recently improved their home gym since it originally came out several years ago. Although when compared to some free weight gyms — it is still very expensive. By the way the parent companies name is Nautilus Incorporated, out of Vancouver, Washington

The Bow flex machine — with the exception of the revolution home gym, their latest product — it’s been much the same size and shape as when it was originally produced.

The resistance comes from their — power rods — the claim is that these “power rods” provide the same resistance as free weights but much smoother than most home gym machines. This seems to be a major benefit in the Total Gym vs Bowflex argument.

Overall the Nautilus system advertises that you can perform approximately 64 exercises on this unit.

The Totalgym on the other home has one major advantage and that is that it can fold up and slide right underneath your bed. Bow flex cannot do this as easily — if at all.

The Chuck Norris gym, as some call it– uses your body weight and bands for its resistance. It is set up on pulleys and the board can slide up and down. This machine lends itself easily to a whole body workout.

They also advertise that you can perform 80 exercises with the it.

In the Total Gym vs Bowflex war the use of celebrities is very common. Two of the most famous spokespeople for it are Chuck Norris and Christie Brinkley.

When choosing a home gym there are many things to take in consideration. One of the most important in the Total Gym vs Bowflex arena if price.

Both of these big boys do not come cheaply.

TITLE Versaflex Stretch Machine

The VersaFlex Stretching Machine is a solid and very useful piece of equipment, especially for those of us who are on the wrong side of middle-age. We bought this (used and fully assembled) since my son (14), daughter (17), and I (45) have started taking TaeKwonDo (actually I took it some 23 years ago and am just getting back into it – hard to start over a White Belt, but to be honest that is appropriate). I am 5′ 10″ and 240 lbs (down from 290 lbs) and find that this machine has greatly improved my flexibility. Here are my observations:

Pros -
+ Very Solid; easily takes my weight and never feels like it is over stressed
+ Easy to Adjust; leg pads are easy to set and accommodate my 5′ 6″ daughter and my 5′ 11″ son
+ Easy to Use; the ratcheting lever is conveniently positioned and smoothly moves the legs apart
+ Grips; front and side handles allow for extended stretching, which is very helpful to getting full benefit from the machine
+ Gauge Indicates Progress; the degrees are clearly marked and seem to be accurate
+ Comfortable; the seat, back support, and legs are nicely padded

Cons -
- 5 Degree Increments; while 5 degrees might not seem like much of an advance, it really is when you are at the extreme end of your range
- Tight Release; the ratchet release can be difficult to activate while the legs are under tension
- Bulky Frame; this takes up a lot of floor space, even when not in use

Misc -
* As noted above, I bought this used (lightly) so did not have to assemble it myself (good since I’m mechanically inept)
* I never use any stretching or exercise equipment without another person being around, helpful since I got stuck my first time

Overall I am very pleased with the VersaFlex and am impressed with improvement in leg flexibility we all have seen as a result of using it.

If you do not realize this and cancel the subscription, you will keep receiving more videos and your credit card will be charged.

Bowflex machines can also lead to some nice results, however the equipment is not the best that it can be. When deciding on what health equipment to purchase, you are better off buying something made from steel or iron.

The Bowflex power rods are more flexible when warm, so keep the equipment in a cool room for best results. Also, the rods break over time. Some consumers have complained about the Bowflex Treadclimber too. It fails to calibrate and if the machine does not calibrate, it cannot be used.
